Mind Map

Pop’s Mind Map offers a lightweight, flexible, and visual way to organize ideas. It is suitable for:

  • Brainstorming and creative exploration
  • Writing / report outline design
  • Project planning and task breakdown
  • Knowledge organization and review
  • Structured note‑taking

A mind map helps you visualize ideas quickly using nodes + connectors, improving comprehension and expression efficiency.

🟦 1. Nodes

1.1 Node Types

The current version supports the following node types:

Type Description
Text Node Basic node used to input any text
Document Snippet Node Inserts selected text fragments from documents as knowledge nodes
Icon Node (certain assets) Optional—used for emphasis, categorization, or decoration

⚠️ Note: AI‑generated nodes are planned for a future update and are not included in the current version.

1.2 Basic Node Operations

Nodes in the mind map support:

  • Click to select
  • Double‑click to edit
  • Drag to move
  • Shift‑click to multi‑select
  • Delete to remove
  • Copy/Paste (Cmd/Ctrl + C / V)
  • Enter to confirm or create a new sibling node

Node content wraps automatically and adjusts its size based on text length.

1.3 Node Styling

Node design focuses on readability and visual clarity:

  • Automatic node size adjustment
  • Height adapts to internal text
  • Consistent Pop theme colors (light/dark mode)
  • Highlighted selection border (blue)

🔗 2. Connectors (Edges)

Connectors show hierarchy or logical relationships.

2.1 Connector Features

  • Auto‑snap to parent or child positions
  • Drag endpoints to change relationships
  • Supports curved or straight connector styles
  • Maintains overall structural aesthetics

2.2 Adjusting Relationships

Drag a connector point to another node to reassign parent-child hierarchy automatically.

🔄 3. Auto Layout

When the mind map grows large, you can use auto‑layout to reorganize structure.

Currently supported:

Layout Direction Description
Horizontal Layout Left → Right hierarchy; similar to traditional mind maps
Vertical Layout Top → Bottom hierarchy; suitable for task breakdowns and flow planning

Auto‑layout automatically adjusts:

  • Hierarchy
  • Spacing
  • Alignment

to keep your map clean and readable.

📥 4. Import & Export

Mind Map supports the following file operations:

4.1 Import JSON

  • Import previously saved mind map projects
  • Continue editing maps created from Pop
  • Fully supports Pop’s native mind map structure

4.2 Export JSON

  • Export the current mind map as a Pop‑compatible JSON project
  • Useful for backup, migration, or sharing with others

Currently, JSON is the standard format; more formats may be added in the future.

🤝 5. Integration with Other Pop Features

Mind Map collaborates seamlessly with documents, notes, and other modules.

5.1 Document Snippet → Mind Map Node

You can select text in Pop documents and choose:

“Add to Mind Map”

The selected fragment will be inserted as a node.

5.2 Mind Map → Document Structure

Mind maps are excellent for:

  • Article/report outline creation
  • Framework decomposition
  • Planning structured study notes

Users can synchronize the mind map into a document as a draft.

5.3 Mind Map → Workflow (Planned)

Mind maps may be converted into executable workflows in future versions.

🧭 6. View Controls

Mind Map supports flexible viewing:

Action Method
Zoom Canvas Mouse wheel / trackpad pinch
Pan Canvas Drag blank area
Re‑center View Reset‑view button
Detail Zoom 200%+ zoom for precise alignment

📝 7. Tips for Effective Use

  • Use Auto Layout to keep structure tidy
  • Use icons for emphasis or categorization
  • Keep each node under 20 characters for readability
  • Press Enter to quickly create sibling nodes
  • Use multiple levels to prevent overly complex maps

Mind maps help you understand complex concepts through structure. They are an essential tool in Pop for planning, organizing, and creative thinking.
